First weekend: San Francisco May 25, 2009

The weekend is coming to a close…and the beginning of our walk is near! I think that all of us are extremely anxious to get the walk started. I officially have 3 guys and 5 girls on my team. Everyone is absolutely fabulous! Our personalities seem to flow well together. We’ve only been together for less than a week—but, our bond is already strong.

We arrived (after 12 hours in the RV) in San Francisco on Friday night. They split us up between four host families. Bridget, Kelsey, Elizabeth and I were put with this absolutely sweet family with a gorgeous home! We even got to sleep in beds (and got a daily shower!).

The weekend started out shaky…but, is finishing up quite nicely. Early Saturday morning we headed to Mass. Afterwards we went for coffee (which as a team, we have decided to give up for the summer—thanks to the healthy influence of our walk leader, Josh, and his brother David…great guys btw!).  We said the rosary in front of Planned Parenthood and the camera crew filmed it for the documentary/recruiting video.

Sidetrack: The Crossroads’ guys asked me to fly to the other walks during the summer to get footage for the documentary—that’s gonna be fun. :-)

Anyways, after the morning activities, one of our host families–Paul–took us to the beach/Pacific ocean so we could run in the water! It was super cold and we got sand everywhere! Finally, we kicked off our walk with a special and quick walk across the Golden Gate Bridge. Tons of supporters came out and walked with us across the bridge. :-)

On Saturday—we had amazing mexican food for lunch. My burrito was to die for! The evening was set aside for Masses. Jessica and I were sent to this HUGE church downtown to give our speech. We nailed it! Last night we went over to Paul’s house where his wife cooked AMAZING Lebanese food! We also made an emergency trip to Target and Marshalls since I didn’t have a skirt. Oops.

Today, Sunday, was INSANELY filled with Mass talks. Dave and I had 5 to do today. Can’t say we’re not getting special graces! Right now, we are hanging out with most of our host families…enjoying some food and fellowship.

Tomorrow morning…we start the walk officially! Here’s to blisters and a farmer’s tan!

Until next time, Michelle
