I thought I had already started this post…but, somehow I can’t find the saved version. Oh well, here goes try #2.
Well, I’m on night shift this week. It doesn’t seem as horrible this time around as it has been in the past. It may be how we are dividing up the miles. Normally, a guy and girl walk together for 7 miles—they get dropped off and walk for almost 2 hours until they reach the van where the other two people are sleeping. This makes for a very long and dreadful night. However, last week one of the boys came up with this brilliant idea to have each guy do 3 miles by themselves for every 2 miles a girl does—where the van follows behind the girl the entire way. This just makes your shift fly by. So, you could say that I’m enjoying it.
Right now, I am sitting in the RV in a campground that is about 45 miles west of St. Louis. Andrea and Matt (the new guy that we picked up in Kansas City) are sleeping here…and Josh is sleeping by the pool (go figure!). I wish I was sleeping—since we FINALLY have air conditioning. It, along with the generator and fridge, have been broken for a little while. So, we spent all day Monday and Tuesday searching for a place to get them fixed. We did…and then not even 8 hours later—the AC broke again. But, Matt somehow found the problem and managed to get it working for now. Like we always say…Welcome to Crossroads.
Speaking of broken things…I think my ipod is possessed. Right now, it has a red circle on the screen and won’t do anything. A couple of weeks ago it was shorting out every cord that I plugged it up to. Hmmm…if you have one you’d like to donate to me, let me know!
So, I’m trying to think about where I left off on my last post. I’m sure I haven’t talked about the 7th week yet. Well, I’m writing this on Word because we don’t really have internet here. But, I managed to sweet talk the lady at the front desk into giving me 60 free minutes of online time.
This past weekend we were in Kansas City, the previous weekend we were in Lincoln, Nebraska. I must admit…we seem to be flying through Missouri—especially compared to the 2 weeks it took us to get out of Nevada. This coming weekend we’ll be in St. Louis to speak at churches. Hopefully I’ll get to see Natalie and Brian (friends of mine from when I went to school in Missouri). I think the team may take some time to visit the arch. I wish they could get to experience the City Museum—but, I know it’s expensive and time-consuming…but SO much fun! Maybe our host family will take us.
Random: I have the funkiest tan lines. My favorite: sock line! It is seriously like night and day difference! Hahaha! Oh, and I have a neckline tan too. So funny.
Anyways, the film crew was here this past weekend. It was the last time we’ll see them until DC! Crazy! They took us around Kansas City to a water fountain, Union Station, night walking and some other things. The owner of a famous bbq place: Jack Stacks, hosted us over at his house on Sunday night. That was a lot of fun…the baked beans were the best I have ever had in my life!!!
I think one of the coolest parts of Crossroads is meeting soooo many people all over the country. It’s a great networking tool. And—you really get to hone your public speaking skills. The worst part = not being able to keep up with hygiene. And if you know me—you know that is kind of an issue. We started this new thing where we only get to take showers on Wednesdays during the week. I’m not gonna lie—that is pretty gross.
I have never smelt that dirty in my entire life! I’m turning into one of those nature-type of people.
Jessica left this afternoon for a week. I’m so jealous of her vacation! But, I bet she is also kind of sad that she’s going to miss out on a week’s worth of events. Her mother and grandmother picked her up today so they could spend some time in St. Louis. Fun fun!
Oh, so—last week (Tuesday I think), we went to Mass…somewhere in Kansas (Maybe—my days and states are running together)…well anyways, we met this lady who invited us to her lake house for dinner! Josh said that if we got 40 miles in on day shift that we could go. So, we pumped out those miles and got to spend the evening on the lake! We went jet skiing and paddle boating! Ahh, the parts of summer that I miss.
You know what I think is pretty cool??? Well, we went to pray in front of Planned Parenthood this past weekend in Kansas City…and when we got there…there were so many young adults praying. It was truly awesome to see the youth getting involved in the pro-life movement! Lots of Focus missionaries. I decided that if I can’t get into Law School because of financial issues or what-not, that I am just going to take some time to participate in various missionary programs similar to the one that I am doing now…but, maybe not so much on the physical exertion side.
Well, I’m sure that I have tons of more things to say (of course), but time is limited because we have to make dinner soon. But, I hope you enjoy this little update.
Until next time, Michelle
